This is my third year at South Pointe, and I'm so thrilled to be a part of a such a supportive, creative, and innovative team! Before joining the South Pointe team, I taught at Royal School for 5 years.
This will be my 10th year teaching in Manitoba public schools. I have taught students from Grades 1-6, in both straight and combined classrooms. Previous to joining the Pembina Trails School division, I taught overseas in Shanghai at an International Baccalaureate Organization school and English as an Additional Language (EAL) to adult professionals in Japan. I have also held EAL positions at the University of Manitoba. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of Manitoba and my teacher education at the University of Toronto. I hold a Special Education certificate from the University of Manitoba.
I love to travel, take pictures, make crafts, putter around in my garden and just enjoy this beautiful world!
I love being a teacher, and I feel so honored to be a part of your child's learning journey! I encourage my students to find their passions and to take an active role in their education. Anything is possible through hard work, dedication, determination and the support of caring individuals to help along the way!
I believe that today's classroom should include voice, choice, time for reflection, opportunities for innovation, critical thinking, problem solving/finding, self assessment and connected learning. - George Couros
Let's have a great year together!

My name is Bernaleene Rufo. I am an educator dedicated to inspire today’s young generation to continuously strive to be the best version of themselves and to equip them to become critical thinkers and problem solvers while positively creating and nurturing connections within themselves and with each other.
I started my teaching career 14 years ago as a substitute and term teacher in various public school divisions in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I graduated with a Science degree where I enjoyed Algebra, Calculus, Chemistry, and Psychology courses. I then continued on to complete an Education degree at the University of Manitoba. 4 years ago, I completed a Post Baccalaureate Diploma having taken courses around Counselling and Special Education.
This year, I am excited to continue growing professionally and personally as I work closely with my previous students from last year, new students this year, and with other colleagues, especially Ms. Huynh.
I can't wait to see what this year has in store for all of us. Let's get working!
